I just thought I would add my voice to a little politics on Friday. Read it or not!
Fact :241 Dems and 0 Republicans voted in the House on 1-20-10 to acquire beach-front property in St. Croix, Virgin Islands. Cost is $40,000,000+. We are $12 Trillion in debt!!!!!!!!!!
Opinion: Umm, really?? and yes it passed.
Fact: Scott Brown is the first Republican elected to the U.S. Senate from Massachusetts since 1972. This vote makes 59 Democrats and 41 Republican.
Opinion: Can you hear the voice of the people in that one? I can! Wahoo!
Fact: Emerging from a closed-door meeting with her caucus, the House speaker vented frustration with the massive version of the legislation. "In its present form without any changes I don't think it's possible to pass the Senate bill in the House," said Pelosi, D-Calif. "I don't see the votes for it at this time." (regarding the Health Care Bill)
Opinion: Thank goodness.
Fact: The Supreme Court has ruled that corporations may spend freely to support or oppose candidates for president and congress, reversing decades-old limits on their participation in Federal campaigns.
Opinion: I am glad someone is reading the constitution! Corporations, believe it or not, are made up of people. Real Americans like you and I, and the first amendment right Freedom of Speech was lost somehow and now re-found!

Heather-
I love your zeal for politics and obvious love for our country! Speaking of which are you a U.S. citizen yet? Your vote would count for more like 100 with your passion:) Because of your example I've been reading about universal health and obama's plan- a little worrisome. It just seems so complex. I wish their was an easier answer. Keep up the good fight!-Alyson

I gotta say I do disagree with you on the corporations bit. Yes, they are made up of people, but those people already get a voice by being individuals. Now they get two, disguised as a corporation. There are already tons of lobbyists. SO if Budweiser wanted to push the alcohol limit down to 16, they could pay as much as they wanted to whatever politician will back them? Then have all the employess vote for said politican because it would mean more revenue for bigger paychecks? IDK...just a quick thought.
Great point, Lori, although in my humble opinion, if the assumption is that the politician can be "bought" by whoever will contribute the most to the campaign, then the voters (ie the people, and not the corporations who don't get to vote) are electing the wrong person. I think everyone should have the right to voice any opinion they want, and in the end it's up to all of us to elect honest people who will uphold the constitution and do what's right. I believe that "we" Americans are good and I don't assume everyone can be bought. Love you!
